Latah Creek Pinot Gris 2017

Latah Creek Pinot Gris 2017
Latah Creek Pinot Gris 2017

BACKGROUND
Father/daughter winemaking team, Mike and Natalie, added Pinot Gris to Latah Creek’s wine family in 2010. This Italian grape grows exceptionally well here in Washington State and produces a wonderfully crisp, drier white wine. This is Ellena’s (wife/mother) favorite white wine.

SOURCING
100% Pinot Gris, Yakima Valley, DenHoed Vineyard

WINEMAKING
The wine was fermented in stainless steel at cooler temperatures, to retain its forward fruit characteristics. A higher acid level was left in the wine to keep it crisp and fresh.

TASTING NOTES
The lushness of this Pinot Gris is delightful. Characteristics of white peach, meyer lemon, and nuances of honey fill all your nose and palate. The crisp acid adds a fresh balance to this wine, making it simply refreshing and utterly satisfying. This wine is wonderful by itself, but pairing it with food makes it even better.

FOOD PAIRING
This wine pairs perfectly with fresh seafood dishes, salads, and pork, such as Ellena’s Roasted Salmon with White Wine Sauce recipe published in her latest cookbook.

Tasting notes

Aromas of pear, green apple, and sweet honey pleasantly greet your nose, but once on your tongue, the off-dry wine bursts with flavors of green apple and papaya. The vividly crisp and refreshing finish leaves you wanting more.

Production notes

The 2017 vintage was a quite a bit cooler than the 2015 or 2016.  This cooler weather allowed for a longer hang-time on the vines, giving the grapes an additional burst of fruit flavor, making this vintage one of the best!  The wine was fermented in stainless steel at cooler temperatures, to retain its forward fruit characteristics. A higher acid level was left in the wine to keep it crisp and fresh.
