Latah Creek Merlot 2019

Father/daughter winemaking team, Mike and Natalie, love their red wine repertoire and Merlot being one of them.  It is an iconic wine for Latah Creek because it is one of the few red wines that date back to Latah Creek’s beginnings, in 1982. Since that time, there has not been a year when a Merlot was not in Mike and Natalie’s collection. It is also special because Mike’s 1989 vintage was honored with being listed in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines. In 2012, Mike and Natalie moved their Merlot grapes vineyard source to the Ancient Lakes appellation where they have been harvesting from since the mid-1980’s. The cooler nights allow for more fruit concentration without losing acids.

Natalie’s Tasting Notes

Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley Winemaker Natalie grew up making Merlots alongside her father and thus feels this undervalued wine deserves the spotlight.  This full-bodied, ruby red wine offers enticing aromas of toasted chocolate, vibrant sweet cherry, and delicate purple florals.  The soft, velvety tannins blend beautifully with dark cherry and raspberry, while notes of black plum and mocha gracefully linger on the palate.

Food Pairing

This Enjoy this delicious wine as an ideal accompaniment to beef, chicken, and pasta, such as Ellena’s Fettuccine with Sautéed Mushrooms recipe in her latest cookbook.
