Latah Creek Mike’s Reserve Red #4

Every vintage of our Reserve Red is different in varietal makeup. Natalie’s aim is not to make the same blend each year, but to make the best blend each year, no matter the varieties or amounts. This is her favorite part of winemaking: blending. It’s an art form. For this wine, they started off with a blending party. Each person is given their own set of wines, multiple glasses, a pipette, and set loose to create their own blends. After the event, Mike and Natalie sat down with all of the favorites of the night and re-created them. After a few tweaks, they found the one and it became no.4.

Natalie’s Tasting Notes

This wine was renamed after three vintages to include my dad’s name, as he was the last in our family to have a namesake wine and he really wanted one.  I love experimenting with him and exploring how the percentages can drastically change the overall flavor of the blend.  These moments are something that I will cherish and remember forever.  This wine is a harmonious blend of fruity, floral, and earthy elements, creating a full-bodied and satisfying red wine.  The combination of ripe red grapes, purple flowers, and toasted oak on the nose sets the stage for a sensory experience.  The flavors of dried plum, blackberry, and soft fine leather upon first sip offer a rich and indulgent taste profile.  The lingering notes of espresso and dark chocolate add depth and sophistication.

Food Pairing

Enjoy this wine with grilled meats, robust foods, or heavy pasta dishes, such as Ellena’s Cracked Pepper Steak recipe available online and in her latest cookbook.
