Latah Creek Pinot Grigio 2023
The idea of crafting a Pinot Grigio sparked for Mike during a visit to Italy with his wife, Ellena. They fell in love with the varietal, so upon returning home, Mike and Natalie contacted their grape growers and discovered grapes available from Yakima Valley. Before long, this variety became their second-largest production wine! Winemaking duo Mike and Natalie have always crafted their Pinot Gris (now Pinot Grigio) in the Italian style. Initially, they chose to label their wine as Pinot Gris to connect with Oregon’s most popular white. However, Pinot Gris wines are typically produced in a French style, which is creamier and has more weight, sometimes with a hint of oak. In contrast, Italian Pinot Grigios are light on the palate, vibrant with acidity, and dry. After nearly 15 years, Mike and Natalie decided to honor the wine’s heritage and rebranded it as Pinot Grigio, starting with their 2022 vintage.
